Thermochemistry- It’s Hot!

REGISTER HERE ON EVENTBRITE!
Tuesday Mornings, 10am-12pm
12/4, 12/11 and 12/18
Instructor: Varinder Singh Bhatia and Lauren Monroe
Fee: $50

Join us for a short workshop that explores the properties of thermochemistry with engaging experiments and real world applications. Thermochemistry is a branch of chemistry that explains how energy, in the form of heat, is absorbed or released in a reaction. Modern products such as flameless heaters, and instant cold and heat packs, are great examples of thermochemistry in action and commercial applications that capture the chemistry magic! Students in this lab will explore the properties of combustion, the heat of salt solutions, and the anatomy of flameless ration meal heaters. They will also get an introduction to chemical equations, endothermic and exothermic reactions, and bond enthalpy. This workshop meets three times for two hour sessions each time and is being made possible at Technocopia through a partnership with the MCPHS (Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences). The workshop series is most appropriate for ages 11-16. We are making exceptions. Please contact us directly if you would like to include a student aged 9 or 10. Please reach out to Lauren at: lauren.monroe@technocopia.org.
